Connections to UPS

Julie - at the other end of the conduit would be a receptacle. The phone equipment would be plugged in to it. Follow the conduit back towards the UPS, goes to JB, which has a blank plate with a 1/2" KO installed. Now out of the KO, exits a short length of say SO cord, with a male plug attached. That plug goes in to the receptacle in the UPS.

Now does it make sense? Figured I'd run it in the reverse scenario.

I think you would have issues with 400.8 with that type of installation. Is there no way to hard wire from the UPS to the junction box that you propose to install the cord/cordcap?

"There is no NEC requirement requiring a power cord for a piece of equipment be not secured. There are all kinds of UL listed devices for doing just that. UL would not list a product the use of which violated the NEC"

If I understand this statement correctly, power cords from equipment are not permitted to be secured to the surface of structures. 400.8(4)

IMO the power cord for a piece of plug in equipment is not covered by the NEC at all, as it is part of the equipment and not the premises wiring. 400.8 only covers cords/cables used as part of the premises wiring.
