Continuity between black and white wires in circuit

My helper tested continuity between black wire and neutral wire at the end of a 12-2 cable in a panel. I believe there is a ceiling fan on that circuit. Is this a false ‘continuous’ reading because of a capacitor in the ceiling fan ? I know I have found ‘continuity’ between a black wire and ground in a garage circuit having a overhead door motor before.

The windings in a motor are connected to both the hot and neutral and they're continuous. No capacitor required to read continuity.

Yep. Same as garage opener and a light bulb.
