Control Box Safety

I am looking for a reference to the safe location/application of ventilation slots in equipment control boxes (in this case, the equipment is an air compressor package). I believe I have previously seen a requirement that the slots cannot expose the equipment operator to possible injury, or worse, due to arc flash/expelled debris, etc., when the operator is positioned for normal starting/stopping of the machine. I believe the requirement was that the slots not be directly in front of the normal operating position, or that there is an internal partition/shield installed, in the box, to protect the operator.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks. (M. Beatty USN (RET))

Re: Control Box Safety

Most of the time ventilation slots are on the side of an enclosure. not sure if this is for safety or esthetic reasons.

I doubt many control panels have much potential for the kind of hazard you suggest.
