Hi all,
I've a small problem here that could use some help.
Consider an MCC panel for Smoke Exhaust Fans.
4 Fans of 5Hp 3phase Motors + 1.5Hp 1phase Dampers each.
I need to interface it with the Fire Alarm Network, and also want a manual Over-ride switch. Please help with the control diagram for interfacing the motors (using Contactor).
Thanks

So I'll Bite! :)

Is the panel inside a MCC, or is this a panel for the application?

Whatever the cause why not use a shunt trip breaker for the your motors which can be controled by the F/A.

Motor Rated Disconnects to be at your motors have your "manual Over-ride switch" built in.

I can only think of Square D, but there's quite a few.

You could get some idea's for their wiring at the respective sites, and I like to use Google, "images", Diagram manual Over-ride switch, etc.

ECM article on A Motor Controller and Disconnect in One?
Maybe someones got something less expensive idea but with manual Over-ride switch desired, just go with Motor Rated Disconnects, JMO.

Seems to much the more "I think about it", standard Motor Rated Disconnects @ motor, put F/A interface there, standard brakers.

you should have the FA vendor design and provide you with the correct modules for interface. they will most likely be dry contacts. you can use those to drive anything you want (4 x 3pole for motors, etc), or get a pre built contactor/logistics panel for the motors from your supply house.

Thankz people,
i'll just enumerate where i'm at now:
a MCB and then a 4pole contactor feeds each motor. the thing is i have to figure out how to control the excitation of the coil of this contactor from the fire alarm panel and also manually override the fire alarm and use a switch to check the fans when ever.

Joe,

The FA module will have a set of dry contacts, use the com. and n.o. set to send power

to the coils of your contactors. For the override switch just parallel wire to these same

contacts. Joe, we are talking 2 switches here ?????
