I am currently designing a system for chemical manufacturer and I am planning to have control panel under the table similar to this picture but flush with the front of the system

but its going to be inside a move in fume hood

that need to be opened to access the control panel. I know there is a requirements for at least 36 inches of clearance Infront of the panel, since the doors are closed while operating, other than separating the control panel from the system.

can I still have the panel under the system and have the disconnect separate from the control panel ?
any suggestions on how I can proceed other than completely separating the panel from the system ?

appreciate your help!

thanks

That is a really horrible place to put a control panel. Do you have any idea how painful (literally) it is to try and work on something mounted at floor level?

I do!
Bought some Siemens 450HP soft starters once, they came in a 90” high enclosure, but their factory put the soft starters, and thereby the HMI for them, just off the floor with only the minimum wire bending space below them. I had to literally lie on the floor grate on my side to program them. Those were the last ones I even bought from them.

Idgits…

I would suggesting having entries for cabling being from the bottom to avoid any possibility of fluids getting into the top. A loose gasket or seal could make for a quick issue with certain chemicals. This includes when they are cleaning the table. They might remove or hose down to wash.

I would probably have it looking more like an "L" shape with the control box at table height. Still having cabling terminate to the bottom.

thanks for the response, I will be the one working on putting this panel in place and wiring rest of the system which I have done before with other systems, I know its a pain but this system is in middle of the lab and there is no place for floor standing enclosure. Also, it would not require frequent maintenance and HMI will be placed on a console outside the hood.

But, my question is can I still have the panel under the system and have the disconnect separate from the control panel ?

control panel on the bottom and disconnect and HMI outside of the fume hood, so there is no minimum clearance of 36 all the time. for someone to access the panel, they need to open the doors with are safety interlocks, and open the panel with the key. since the disconnect is outside, not sure how I can interlock the panel from being opened while the power is oN ?

thank you

You can do whatever you want. Whether it is a good design idea is something else.

If you have a remote disconnect and want to interlock it with the door, they make electrical interlocks for this purpose.
