That reminds me of a call I got in Nags Head about 20 years ago (I was working in Norfolk Va.) The submerged pump at a gas station quit working. I discovered the conductors were defective. So I cleared/removed the sealoffs and tried to remove the conductors. I couldn't get them out at first. I could get air through the conduit, but a fish tape would just get stuck about the same place coming from either the pump or the building. I could not get a string all the way through the conduit either. I eventually got the old conductors out and it appears there is a buried junction box under the concrete somewhere.

I blew a sting in as far as I could, pushed the fishtape in from the other end, hooked it and got the string through. Pulled in stranded conductors, ohmed them out (everything ok) and everything was working fine.
 
I've never seen these and they look very cool but why are they giving so many quanity discounts?? Are they for 0ne time or few time use and start breaking down or get gummed up and quit rolling so it becomes a ball at the end??

A couple of the hands that work for me could tear up an anvil with a rubber mallet. So, I will tell you how good this is after my guys get a hold of them. Here is what it says about them...

The A90s are made of DELRIN and TEFLON plastics. Delrin is the toughest plastic available. Delrin can be compared to metal. But, a lot easier to work with from a manufacturing point of view. Teflon is the slickest plastic available. These two plastics combined, give the A90s the strenth they need to hold up to the punishment dished out while being pushed through conduit. The beating and banging associated with hitting a obstacle repeatedly, and the ability to retain the freedom of movement desired to travel through bends.

That's a good question, but from the way it appears to be constructed, I believe a shot of air should dislodge it.

Personally, anything that a fish tape may have a hard time with I just use my Greenlee vac.

pictures don't show how it attaches to fishtape or how does the wire attach to it ... a bit better advertisement would be nice ... M

Outstanding. I know the feeling you got when you felt the tug on the string! (Picture the Nestea plunge: Ahhhhhhhhh!)
 
This method of getting a fish tape through some monster runs isn't a new idea. I learned this trick years ago. All we did was take a golf ball and drill a 1/4" hole through it. We would then take the end of the fish tape heat it up with a torch and bend it into a triangle shape. Then you slide the golf ball onto it and presto you can fish any pipe run (larger diameter than a golf ball.)

You would be suprised how often we used this trick. There will always be a time when you don't have the vac, or temp power, or even a plastic baggie (yes it has happened to me).

I think it is a great invention, and a nice tool to have handy on the truck because sometimes you never know!

I was told before heading to the job the 4" underground conduit that needed a 24pair pulled from the street to the tel/data room had a pull string in it. I headed to the job with the wire and an apprentice in my truck armed with nothing more than a fish tape. The run was about 150' and I knew I would not be able to get the fish tape in. I was about an hour away from our shop, so I was willing to try anything before driving back. We fought for a while with the fish tape, no go. I started going through the back seat of the truck and remembered I had a few golf ball that fell out of my golf bag. Had the apprentice drill the hole and presto, we were off to the races!!! Sometimes I think its quicker to grab the golf ball attatchment than spend the time setting up the vac. Try it sometime, it really works!!
