I'm running an underground feeder[URD Alum.] from a service on a pole to a detached garage located 50 feet away. The inspector requires a copper EGC based on the 2008 NEC.Has anyone ran aluminum conductors for the EGC?This is in a rural area not ag. related[547].

I'm running an underground feeder [URD Alum.] . . . The inspector requires a copper EGC . . .
To get this started, URD cable is not recognized by the NEC but USE is acceptable to be used. There is no reason to require Cu. conductors unless you are planning to run the EGC as a bare wire.

Based on exactly what in the '08 NEC?

While USE is code permitted, it is not permitted to enter a building even for termination purposes unless it has an additional rating that is one that is listed in Table 310.13.
