Why not just install a longer cord pigtail on the Garage door opener. Wouldn't be any different than installing a new cord on a tool. As long as it is less than 6' that should satisfy the iwire police.

That was suggested and might be an answer, or it could be a listing violation depending on the units listing and labeling.

By the way, we send our tools out to a repair shop to have cords replaced just to make sure they are satisfactory to OSHA inspectors. :p

I have done that too, but I am egotistical enough to think that I can do it better than most of those tool repair helpers:angel:

Had an broken tool one time and an employee at the time asked who fixes those around here?

My reply - uhh me, and had to hold back from wanting to slap him silly. I then told him if someone else had same problem they very well may be bringing that tool to me for repair so why do I have to bring my tools somewhere else for repair?

I disagree with you on that.

If that is true, and I have my doubts with residential units, it would require installing a disconect switch for it.
I agree, I am certain there is something about extension cords regarding temporary installations. At least my local AHJ recognizes extension cords as temporary installations.

So as long as we unplug this say every 90 days it is acceptable to use the extension cord then:cool:

We could even have a log to keep track of when it was unplugged to show anyone that objects.:)
