Cord Length on Hanging Light Fixture

One quick question is there a max on the length of cord used on a 277 Volt light fixture in a commercial application? One custumer would like to move some of the lights, and does not have enough cord on some of the fixtures. So he like to remove the old cord and replace it with a longer cord.

In addition to Article 400, make sure that you comply with 410.62(C)(1) (2008 NEC) or 410.30(C)(1) (2005 NEC).

Yes that is what I was talking about. This one customer wants to move some Flourscent light fixtures in his warehouse. His question was how long can the cord be on these lights he is moving.

since its not a 'portable' fixture, I do not believe there is a limit in the NEC 2008 if it meets all of 410.62(C)(1). Its just been common practice to only go 6ft in my area.

Will the relocated lights be directly below the outlet?

Will the lights be cord and plug connected?

No they will not be located directly under the recepticle And yes the Lights have twist lock plus and recepticles

To comply with 410.62(C)(1)(1) the luminaire must be located directly below the outlet. You will most likely need to add additional receptacles above the relocated luminaires.
