That will service one of the apartments in my multi-family dwelling. Basic lighting and also will be used to run a small 20 gallon electric water heater. The apartment is two bedroom. The electrician put all disconnects in the basement and we will then have to put panels in each apartment to run individual branch circuits. Thanks!

I would say 3-#6AWG THHN (ungrounded and grounded conductors) and 1-#10AWG THHN equipment grounding conductor, unless the distance were very far then you would need to consider voltage drop.

Also, if the calculated load is greater than the rating of the cable (if it is cable), you can't use 240.4(B).

You need to be talking to your journeyman about this because you may not know what questions you should be asking. With that, I am locking this thread. Please send me a PM if you think I am mistaken with my statement. :)
