We don't do alot of commercial work, but do any of you use a rough cost per rough openings using emt. per foot or anything else. Central Illinois area. would be greatly appreciated. Ron

Conduit is usually taken off by linier ft. , the labor units are in linier ft. also.

wire is the same way times the number of conductors, labor units same way.

There are tools made to assisit you in doing this, they have a roller on one end

and a means to set the scale to the prints, start rolling.

I think it depends on what the conduit is running to. we have unit prices for 20 amp receps using emt, we have unit prices for running homeruns with x number of wires. why would you need a price for running to rough openings. are you gonna go back and break it out and add the cost of trimming it out?

Ceiling height and how you get to that height will play a very important role here...

Ya.

There is also a major difference between a brand new Super WalMart with all the room in the world to run pipe, and a crowded ceiling in a hospital.

I have never use one of those rollers! Are they pretty good? Which one's would you recommend

The expertise comes in when considering all of the variables.
It takes a bit of skill to run 4" rigid conduit. What are the site conditions, how long is the run?
A run 20' long has much less risk than a run 200' or 300' long. Weight of that size conduit and the support method are also major considerations.

I just paid $127.00 for a 10 foot stick of 4" IMC and thought it was a great deal.

Can you see how my question does not contain nearly enough information?

We need a lot more info than has been given.

well, yeah..... the hospital doesn't have a 68 year old greeter at the
front door.

there's an old seat of the pants rule of thumb on working distance above
the floor... with an 8' ceiling being a factor of zero.... for every 6' above
that, double the labor to install conduit. now, if it's a tilt up, and you
are doing it from a scissor lift, and the floor is open and clear, that rule
doesn't apply, but if you are running pipe in an existing factory from a
12' stepladder, and you are on the next to top step to get close, it's a
pretty good rule.
