Has anyone else experienced price increases in material. I bid a job and in the two weeks the cost almost doubled for material. This makes it hard to

Box store,, Could be my mistake. I was just saying it can be hard to price stuff is all. It could also be just my timing, prices change all the time anymore. When I first priced the job I checked both the supply house and Box stores and there was less then $5 difference. Monday I'm going to try call the supply house and see. I am also in NJ where everthing is priced high!😂

In volatile times note on your proposal that the quote is only good for say 24 hours. Years ago our suppliers only guaranteed wire quotes to 5:00 and that was plainly stated on their quotes, we did the same.

do you mark your materials up or sell them at your cost? Some mark up on your quotes will at least protect you a little when prices vary between time of quote and signing/agreeing to do the work, if it is within rather short time of the quote. Sometimes you even come out further ahead if the price went down when you actually made the purchase.

That was big Orange, supply house is $2.30 a foot, and 1/0 quad ser is $2.59.
I find big box store only has good prices, or competitive at the leas, on 14 and 12 AWG NM cable in 250 or 1000 foot reels. High purchase volume of these vs most other wire and cable is likely why they can get the price they have.

They really get you on those 100, 50 or 25 foot lengths of any size, but for the typical DIY those are still less cost than a larger length and have so much left over you don't need so there is the convenience factor in there.

HD prices used to be close to the same price as my suppliers for 14/2 & 12/2 but were always substantially higher for 14/3 & 12/3. The past few years HD has been about 30% higher than my suppliers for 14/2 & 12/2.

Times are defiantly changing. Work is harder to find and pricing is also harder. I am hoping to see things change. life is not getting cheaper and I'm not getting any younger.:(

It's been a few years since I was in the resi rat race, but I used to find that HD and Lowes would be competitive and most of the time cheaper on your bigger items, i.e. wire, panelboards, breakers, etc.... Where they would get you is on the smaller fittings like couplings, connectors, straps, etc...
They would sometimes mark these items up 300% to 500% above supply house prices in hopes that you would just buy everything there in one stop. I never played that game and stayed loyal to my supply houses. They always delivered to my shop at no extra charge and gave me premium contractor pricing for not nickel and diming them to death.

I have an exit plan this is just a means to an end.
I’m opening an RV park screw electrical
Campsites have rocketed in price! The last two trips I have taken, I’ve stayed at hotels, they were quite a bit cheaper, and I get 25 mpg in my wife’s truck vs 9 mpg in my truck pulling a camper! Last trip, I got a Hampton Inn for $87, campgrounds were $100+.

Is there a fire pit at the Hampton Inn?
