are bucannon type crimps required on ground wires in every outlet box, or is that just the local inspectors pet peeve?

Re: crimps on ground wires

There is no specific NEC requirement to use crimps for anything.

You could use wire nuts, crimps etc. any listed wire connector.

Re: crimps on ground wires

Choice is yours, buchaons, greenies, wire nuts.Personally i have not used bucannons in over 10 years. They are just not worth the time and are real pain to remove if needed. On houses i use greenies.

Re: crimps on ground wires

I use buchannan crimps, but that is my personal preference. It saves space in the box. Some inspectors are "old timers" (at least in my area). They are used to seeing crimps for their entire career, until they quit doing installs. To many old timers, anything new, odd, or ususual must be a violation in their mind.

Re: crimps on ground wires

I prefer greenies also especially when a drywaller so lovingly screws his screw of destruction in the hardest to get at wire.I always make up my grounds first and tuck them out of the way and crimp sleeves that are properly crimped are the hardest to undo compared to a few counterclockwise twists of a wirenut

Re: crimps on ground wires

Stop using Buchannans, I don't like them. :D

Aside from that, I can't tell from your post whether you're splicing the EGC's in all the boxes with or without Buchannons. I assume you are but if not, some inspectors can be a little preoccupied with that kind of thing.

I don't think there are any inspectors left who havn't seen multitudes of buildings with no Buchannons at all.

oh that must be it.. i was putting the crimp on just one ground wire and not them all.. :D

Re: crimps on ground wires

I use crimps. But I could use split bolts also. Or greenies, or pigtail out of a wirenut. My crimps take up very little space, and since we always get so concerned about box fill, it is my little contribution to the betterment of the planet.

Crimps or greenies, they both count as the same as far as box fill goes
How about a code reference? Wire connectors don't count at all towards box fill.
