Welcome to the forums. Mike very seldom posts but, you will find many knowledgeable people here who can help you.

As far as your question is concerned, no, you can not use PVC to the machine from the control room, the final connection to the machine would fall under 517.13 and 517.30(C)(3) if applicable.

Welcome to the Forum.

Roger, I don't believe the OP is asking about the power supply, sounds to me like he is asking about the control wiring. If the feeder/branch circuit meets 517.13, could the control wiring not enter a non-care area via PVC in the slab?

Chris, the control circuitry would fall under part VI of 517 and 517.82(A) would basically require the same grounding as 517.13. There are exceptions to secondary side of low voltage transformer in 517.80 though.

I see, thanks.

If this is control wiring, I tend to consider it part of the CT System, and not part of the premisis wiring. If that is the case, then I'm not sure the conduits mentioned would fall under the scope of the NEC. I think it falls more under the requirements that the CT manufacturer puts on their installation drawings.

That said, I've never see a set of installation drawings that would allow PVC for these conduits. Also, I'm not sure many inspectors would agree. They tend to error slightly on the side of assuming anything installed by the electrician is subject to the NEC.

Steve, in NC it wouldn't matter if the raceways are part of the equipment manufacturers plans. The manufacturers plans would be incorporated into a building design and would fall under local plan reveiw and NEC requirements.

The same is true of the bonding of the equipment, all of what is shown on the manufacturers plans to be "field installed" is inspected by the local inspectors and AHJ(s)
