Cummins generator

Need help figuring out wiring for a Cummins. I usually install generacs but the Cummins control wiring is completely different. How many control wires do I put in and do they match up inside the ats?
 
I just so happen to be wiring up one tomorrow
It looks like to me you need 4 control wires, depending on the ATS, the manual says they can be 18g wire, need the 120v lines too

Thank you so much! One more question exactly which ones do I connect it to because the labeling seems to be different and I don’t want to get it wrong. The manual shows 3 wires connected; utility sense 1, one in 4 a jumper between 3&4, and one in 7 to transfer switch control but what would the fourth be?

Im doing a larger commercial generator right now, standard 2 wire start. Im kinda like how the hell does that work? :unsure: ..........well not so much how does it work, but why doesn everyone else use 13,681 when 2 seems to work....?

I do wish they would make the systems able to sense it on their own somehow or just have like one sensor wire the generacs have 6 different ones

I'm with you. All this resi grade generator/ATS proprietary stuff is a PITA. Good old 2 wire start has been used in the commercial/industrial world has been used for many decades and has a whole lot of advantages. Of course the resi genset makers want to lock you into their ATS so I guess that s what started all this nonsense.
In the earlier Generac resi machines their was a control board setting to allow you to use standard ATSs with 2 wire start. Not sure if that is still the case.

I've wired a few Cummings residential 20k air cooled with Service rated ATS.
the model numbers of both would be useful to help you out.
Like McLintock wrote three conductors plus the 120volt circuit are the minimum to start out with.

So the generator is the C20N6HC and the ats is the RA212S3. I’m going to do it tomorrow so I really appreciate the help from everyone!!
 
Two (control wires) is all that is necessary to start the generator. But I think most the logic controls are in the genset so therefore you also need to bring utility voltage to the genset for sensing loss of utility so that makes at least four wires needed plus any other features that need to connect between the genset and transfer switch may require additional conductors. The utility sense conductors certainly can be capable of also supplying power for battery charger, block heater, etc.
