If you could go back 10/15 years, what would you tell yourself to watch out for? What was the one thing that you wish someone had told you to watch out for? A big one for me was fire stopping. I wish I had known more about it when i first started.

Had a conversation a few minutes ago with a lady who'd been divorced twice. 1st husband became addicted to cocaine, 2nd became a General Contractor. She agreed that GC was worse than CA.

Never take a man at his word when it comes to money and all changes need to be in writing. Most GCs and realitors are only in it for themselfs and could care less if you dont get paid.

To not be afraid to just quit when wire prices triple practically overnight. Instead of doing whatever it took to keep going and keeping people employed.

That you are not working for yourself, you are working for the IRS, Bank and Wife/family. Usually, but not always in that order.

Not have kids that are parasitic.
Not get too myopic about career choices.
Set a definite time limit on career choice.
Not get married and have kids. Did I mention that one?
Keep in minds Electrical contracting is a subcontractor business and not on top of the heap in money earners.
Become a plumber and make really big bucks.
Do no work for restaurants, GC's, or Service companies.
Do not be afraid to ask for HUGE amounts of money for little bitty work performed like plumbers.

When it comes to construction (and men) the majority has a ego and a opinion (said the pot to the kettle) :ashamed:

I would tell the younger me to become an engineer, instead of an installer/contractor. If you have an engineering degree, even if you don't know what you are doing, people still think you do, as long as you don't act confused:happyyes:

Of course contractors and installers are the only ones that can see past this flaw.:lol:
