Current Capacity Of Conductor

Sir,
If A Cable Is Ratted For Fix Current. Say 1000amp

What Is The Length Suitable.

What Is The Max Current It Can Carry.

And How Much Time.

The cable/conductor is rated 1000A no matter how long it is. Length will effect the voltage of the circuit not the ampacity of the conductor.

The maximum current it can carry continuously is 1000A.

It can carry 1000A infinitely.

That depends wholly on the conductor material and the installed ambient. You can run your conductors red hot and carry way more current than they are really 'rated' for. I put rated in quotes, because conductor ratings are more arbitrary and not necessarily fixed by laws of physics. You can load a conductor up until it fuses open. To determine that point, you need to know guage, material type, and temperature.

Determining the size of conductor (effective ampacity) is based on the following: (1)Using correction factors for ambient temperature of more than 30 degrees celsius, (2)Derating for more than 3 conductors in the conduit. Also, the conductor must be loaded only up to 80% of its ampacity..

I guess since he asked about a 1000 amp cable it isn't technically a DIY thread, even though the OP isn't in the field...

FWIW, is there a cable made for 1000 amps? We never use anything over 500- 750 is too much trouble. Just parallel 500's as many times as it takes to get to the required amps...

This is NOT in the NEC but it is a myth that refuses to die. Conductors may be loaded to 100% of their rated ampacity unless the load is CONTINUOUS. See 210.19(A)

Sir,
Thanks For Reply.

But I Feel Why They Never Mention Length.

Why No Informaton Is Given About How Much

We Can Overloadfor A Fix Duration.

Sir,

What I Feel Is Why Sutable Length

Is Not Mentioned In Catlog For A Fix

Max Current?

Why A Sefer Timebounding Overload

Capacity Is Not Mentioned?

So That We Can Take Decision.

I AM ALECTURER IN ELECTRICAL ENGG

RECENTLEY I HAVE INSALLED A SUB STATION

IN MY COLLEGE. THE CAPACITY IS 315 KVA,

11KV/433V.

SO NOW I AM THINKING OF CABELING .
