Re: Customer not paying after rough-in

Here in Jersey, they print right on the inspection card, No Final Payment to Contractor Until Inspection Is Complete, also, we would never expect, anyone to pay for rough completion, until the rough has been inspected, what we do is get a large down payment, another payment at rough completion , and then a small payment at the end, another thing we do is qualify the customer, before we contract with them, we run a credit check first, this is to avoid payment problems, contracting is 30% electrical skills 70% business skills.

I don't know how this one worked out but...

If you get a check, call the bank and tell'em you're holding a check for $xxx.xx and ask if it will clear. If it won't, lower the question amount by $500 and ask again -- the lesser amount may fly.

Now you get sneaky and go to the bank with the check and $500 cash and deposit the cash in the customers account and then immediately cash the check which would now clear.

My dad used this trick a few times when some sleaze tried to screw him. You don't get it all, but you'll get most of it and can walk away feeling you didn't get burned too bad.

The slime ball will be hopping mad when they find out that you drained their account with a "rubber check" they never expected to clear, but them's the breaks
