Cut In Boxes

when i use old work boxes and madison straps, i tape my receptacles or switches up and i also crimp the madison straps with my dikes. whenever i use any metal box i tape the device. just my way of doing things.

Usually we do but few will know how to read them and nobody will know where it is anyways.When a customer gets into a box they should know the risk.As to finding a tripped breaker most can be trained to run finger down them and find it.
 
If I am working it hot I will tape a fat switch (spec grade) in a metal cut in. Sometimes an outlet if I think I will have trouble getting it in smoothly.


I will also tape devices when I know they have to be removed by a drywaller or tile guy etc.

Something tells me they should be smart enough to turn the power off first... if not at least ask someone to show them how...?

I don't disagree but still, it's a simple courtesy and only takes 30 seconds.

I tend to look at the whole job as partially my responsibility.

As a former smoker, I still carry a matchbook or two and lighter in my van. They sometimes come in handy. Any convenience store still hands out matches.

Nope - its the over the counter stuff that gets a hold on ya....

Paul - Back on the convienience of lighters. I can not count how many times I have used a lighter to find my flash light.... Ya drop it in the insulation and it all goes dark....:roll:
 
"shorting" out in a commercial enviorment to save time takes a big set of brass valls . Untill you have mains tripped in another building , or dump a phone systen at 10:00 am you really will never get it

I have seen 50 amp breaker on #12,Care to short that one ?Also seen 208 /20 amps with only one pole labeled in one panel other in panel next to it with no label.Also had a 30 2 pole short out (bad breaker) and kick 1,000 main (poco guy happened to be next to it at time (think there mighted been a bad smell near him )
 
lol man I am the one who shorted out the receptacle and blew the main breaker and popped the fuse on the transformer outside and had to wait 2 hours for the POCO to come fix..:grin: :D

I even own them fancy breaker finders..dont have much faith in them any more..man did that planed outage turn rather big..had trouble sitting in truck for awhile..:) :smile:

So can anyone recommend a high quality circuit breaker locator and a broken wire in the wall finder..I am getting really good at sheet rock repair..my painting skills are still iffy though..

the ideal suretest is a nice one so is the amprobe. i use the old fashioned greenlee and it worksfor me
 
I actually have the Amprobe AT1000 I am not impressed with it..you get to the panel and the signal is so massive you have trouble with locating the correct breaker even adjusting the power on it..maybe I need lesson on its useage..wonder if I can get hot model to show me how to use it..
