I haven't seen a thread for this yet but it seems that everyone with a tool pouch has an opinion. Just curious what the "official" tally will be.

{Moderator's Note: I've taken the liberty of adding another option to the poll.}

Grant, this has been beaten up on before. It is just up to the installer as long as it is not installed face up on a counter top.

Greg,

Sorry 'bout that. I didn't check the archives. Could I just leave the poll up without all the added commentary? Does someone have a link to the old thread? I'm not interested in making this the next "number of recept's" thread. . .

Thanks,
Dale

Thats cool Dale but ya cant post here without the added commentary. But I prefer ground down and I did vote...... :)

Just check to see what is going to be plugged into it. Some things are better plugged in with ground up and some with ground down. :p

There are probably about 20 of them. Each time I see one, I close it. I'll leave this one open for a while, to see how the poll comes out.

I reversed one in my dining room only last week. I can't recall whether it was ground up or down, but I needed it to be the other way. I plugged in one of those flat plug extension cords, and the way it was oriented made the cord go up the wall for a short distance, before it curved down to the floor. That looked ugly to me, so I reversed the receptacle. Now the cord just goes down to the floor. That is the most sensible reason I have ever heard for installing a receptacle one way or the other way. Which is to say that all other reasons are not sensible in the least.

HEY !!!

You forgot the best choice of them all !

I voted 'Whichever is in the rest of the house (old work)'

Which is the closest selection to my real answer

'Whatever the person paying the bill would like'.

just curious:

1. What's "cracking corn" and why would any one care or not care?

2. Charlie! (said in a loud stern voice with tongue firmly in cheek), are you saying you did DYI

3. Does anyone know how one could even talk with "tongue firmly in cheek"?

I install receptacles according to a number of things:
1) what do the specs call for
2) what is done in the rest of the building
3) what does the customer want
4) if it's up to me I go the correct way  ground down

I did a custom for the younger Steinbrenner Yankees owners. The architect drew all receptacles horiz. in base boards and all in bed rooms switched. That made for 5 gangs in all bed rooms. After they moved in we were paid to non switch all but one that left 2 for fan one for sw recep. and 2 dummies. So we got paid to 3 wire all the receps then disconnect the 3rd wire.Go figure more money then brains I guess. :D
