Curiously, some of the P&S recepticals are actually stamped "top" on one side of them. I don't have one in front of me, but the 5262's might be this way.

While they do stamp it "top" on some of their devices it is a recommendation and not an instruction. The following is from the FAQ.
Q: Should a standard 15A or 20A receptacles be installed with the ground contact on the top or on the bottom?
A: The ground contact orientation is not specified by the NEC and therefore the receptacle can be installed with the ground pin up or down. As a company, Pass & Seymour/Legrand recommends the receptacles be installed with the ground pin up.

I like the ground up when I put them up. The reason why is if plug is out a little and something thin made of some type of metal falls on it , it will hit the ground pin and fall to it's side. If in the same case you have the neutral & hot on the up side it could cause a short. I do this all the time a factories and in house what ever the home owner wants.

Leviton Decora 3 ways have "up" stamped too. How can there be an "up" to a 3 way?

Maybe we can start a new thread. Common up or common down?
