Per an inspector I was informed that you could not daisy chain light fixtures with M.C cable. Also you can not come out of a light fixture and feed an exit light. He state you can feed up to four lights out of a j-box using a six foot whip. Is this correct?

Is this correct?

Not as far as the NEC is concerened. If this inspector is inspecting for NEC compliance he is out to lunch, if he is inspecting for specs or local codes he may have some substance to his claims.

Ask him for an article and section.

sounds more like he is trying to enforce job specs....

Agreed.

Ask for a Code reference to back up his 'claim' if the inspector is simply looking for NEC / local code compliance.

Unless it's a legally-adopted Code (public hearing, adoption by AHJ, publication, etc.) the inspector is off track.

Perhaps the inspector is thinking you are using fixture whips to daisy chain fixtures, which would be a violation.

I believe the exit light has to be on a sperate circuit due to most fire codes not the NEC. so in rural areas some inspectors due inforce some building codes. I am not defending them or saying it is correct. I just have had a few experiences with that particular situations. Most of the time in the long run it is easier to comply then to be correct.
