I have an engineer that is telling me that ?daisy chaining? fixture to fixture connections with MC cable I s not allowed as per the NEC. We are connecting 2x4 troffers with a dual MC connectors, and all MC cables are supported with ?bat wings?. His response is that this is not allowed unless the fixture is listed as an approved raceway. I am looking at 410.32 and it appears that feed thru wiring is acceptable even if the fixture is not listed as a raceway. Can anyone send me some illustrated graphics & info to go to the engineer with?

How would the dual MC connector be a feed through? Going in one end of the fixture and out the other is my definition of feed through.

That is not using a fixture as a raceway.

It seems to me that 410.32 explicitly allows what you are doing. Have you pointed out this article to the engineer?

The engineer probably read 410.31 and concluded he did not need to read anything else. This is an example of where the conversion to "positive" language in the code can sometimes make the code harder to read. The information in 410.32 was previously an exception to 410.31 and the code was easier to use when it was written in that format. The change was made for the 2002 code. In the 99 code it was Exception #2 to 410-31.
