Data Communication Wiring

I am using exterior Cat5e wire to connect RS485 data ports of photovoltaic inverters. The inverters are exterior mounted. My questions are:
Does this cabling need to be run in conduit? If not, can this cabling be "strapped" (using cable ties)to the conduit carrying the ac power lines into the building? The data lines will not be run in or near the electrical closet where the ac lines into the utility grid. (once in the building, the data lines are routed in another direction).

Re: Data Communication Wiring

if the cable is sunlight resistant it doesn't have to be in conduit. As far as strapping to the service entrance pipe, it will probably be ok, but it isn't my equipment, so you may want to ask the manufacture rep of the sensitive equipment.
