De-natured Alcohol

What state? We can only get 151 proof here.

NC limits to 151 also.

I go to Reno a 4-5 times a year for work, I often pick up some "good stuff" when I go.

Right now we can't even get rubbing alcohol anywhere, the hoarders have it all...

No. It was methanol. 'Wood Alcohol'. She did have wintergreen. This would have been early 1960's.
Wood alcohol is indeed methanol, and it's very toxic. I think even skin contact is hazardous.

With all the contact cleaners available out there that are also non-flammable, why would you want to use any kind of alcohol?

Mainly because it's cheap and usually sitting on the shelf next to the q-tips (excuse me-- 'cotton swabs').

It also does not leave residue (assuming you've removed all of the crud with the q.... swabs).

Methanol is poisonous and causes blindness if ingested. It is a bad choice to use for anything since it can actually pass into your body through the skin.

Ethanol is the alcohol we often drink and is generally safe to use externally.

IPA is generally safe even to ingest in limited quantities but the problem with ingesting it is that the amount required to get a buzz is dangerously close to the lethal level, while with ethanol those levels are nowhere near as close.

IPA is used a lot in washing chips and electronics so I would go with that. use the 99% stuff though.
