Wood alcohol is indeed methanol, and it's very toxic. I think even skin contact is hazardous.No. It was methanol. 'Wood Alcohol'. She did have wintergreen. This would have been early 1960's.
Mainly because it's cheap and usually sitting on the shelf next to the q-tips (excuse me-- 'cotton swabs').With all the contact cleaners available out there that are also non-flammable, why would you want to use any kind of alcohol?
