Article 110.26 defines dedicated electrical space and outlines that sprinkler pipe above dedicated space would be required to have drip pans under them.

Has anyone had an instance where pre-action sprinkler systems (air filled) were allowed within the dedicated space or above the dedicated space without being required to have drip pans?

Re: Dedicated Electrical Space

110.26F(1)(b) Foreign Systems, states that the area above the space required by 110.26(F)(1)(a) will permit foreign systems if they are protected to avoid damage to the electrical equipment below. The sections specifically states that the protection is "installed to avoid damage to the electrical equipment from condensation, leaks or breaks in the foreign system".

Since a pre-action system would not cause the system to leak or flood from a break then the only restriction left in this section would be from condensation. And since the piping contains no water I can't see how condensation would be an issue either.

Anyone else have a different view?
