I'm doing a large retail store with a 4000A 408V switchboard. Also in the electric room will be a 112KVA transformer but nothing larger. I would always put this in a dedicated room, but I'm being pushed to prove that it's absolutely required by code.

I believe the answer is that it is not. If you had larger transformer it would be required, if there was life safety equipment then you'd have to have it but otherwise, no.

Agree - disagree and if disagree per what paragragh in the code. By the way this is in Mass.

Thanks,

It's not required, but I can't cite an article that states that it's not required. The ony constraint is the working space rules in 110.26. If that space is clear, you can have an office or a storeroom or a piano bar in the other areas of the same room.

Thanks

Thanks

Yeah - I thought that was the case. And it's funny you should mention a piano bar. I happen to play the piano. Wonder what would happen if I designed one in.
