Correctamundo! The micros must be re-cocked before anything can be restored to normal operation.

In Larry's picture above, he's using the reset relay to only reset the gas valve (I think). Honeywell is the OEM for the ANSUL brand reset relay. If you buy that reset relay directly from Honeywell, it will not say "Gas Valve Reset Relay" on the front. It will only say something like "press to reset". For that reason, I buy the reset relay right from Honeywell, and use that reset relay to reset everything that tripped off when I'm doing it all with contactors, and not limit it to just the gas valve.

Mark - sometimes.... I like the way you think.

Bob,

Who said this thread had to be about code? I was commenting on the OPs question about relays being constantly energized. I did not see where the OP referenced anything about code?

I am a stickler for not spreading 'code rumors' and yes, I know that is not what you where trying to do.

I feel it is very important that here at an electrical code forum that we always make clear what is required by the code and what is simply design.

So many myths circulate in this trade because people hear half of something and take it as code.

As an example, an apprentice may be on a job and the boss says "We must always pull a green EGC in every raceway" That could be a job spec but the apprentice assumes it is 'code'. Anti short bushings for MC, ask many electricians if they are required and they will say yes the code requires them even though it does not.

So that was my only point, when someone is asking how to wire a Ansul system I don't want them to think code requires the system to be wired in a fail to the 'tripped' state.

It may sound odd but I want all ECs to know the bare minimum code requirements but I hope they decide to exceed them on their own. :)

So how do you wire it so the system completely resets without resetting the head and the micros?

You mean the fans return to manual operation, the horn/strobe stops, the building alarm, if there is one, stops?
