Re: Delta Breakers

It's a breaker that allowed using two phases from a single phase panel and one phase as a feed through connection.

They have been illegal since the late 70's and in the mid 70's they were for replacement only.

Imagine a three phase breaker with 4 lugs, three of which would be on the load end like any other breaker, and one lug on the other end.

Re: Delta Breakers

Actually all four terminals were on the same end of the breaker, similar to a 2 pole GFI except for a lug instead of a pigtail. When this breaker was plugged into the panel it took three pole spaces but only connected to two busbars.

Re: Delta Breakers

Jim, the last one I installed was around 78 and was a SQ D. I know it has been a long time, but it took 6 spaces of the panel (1,3,5,2,4,6) and although it has been 26 years, I can remember it having one end to end connection. It seems as though this was a 100 or 125 amp breaker.

Re: Delta Breakers

Roger, in those days all 100A QO breakers (actually they were Q1 breakers) took the full width of a loadcenter effectively using twice the number spaces.
