Those $10 jeans in the 80's were still fairly decent quality and yes there were designer stuff that was even higher, I never had any of them though. Today you can still get jeans in the $10 range - but they are nearly a wear once and toss type of thing, unless you don't do physical activity at all while wearing them.
Remember the Denim Strike from the late 60's or early 70's? Jeans were so cheap that the denim makers shut down for a while to drive the prices up. At least that's how I remember it, but the shelves and racks were indeed very bare of jeans for a while, and when they were available again the price had gone up signicantly.

Was too young to care about that sort of thing at that time, I wore whatever mom got me, but was usually quite colorful looking back at some pictures from that time.

here is one for less than $4,000. And, I won't say that $7,500 is improbable, given some engineer's specifications one could be far more. But they shouldn't be, and the higher the price the more the mark up and the the gist of my statement was that by the time you take away all of the profit the change will likely not be devastating.
