What does 200.2 mean? It sounds to me like any service (which is part of a premise wiring system) must have a grounded conductor! Which is different than what I have been taught. I have been taught that a delta service straight voltage did not have to be grounded, all of the conduits and metal enclosure's were required to be connected to the grounding electrode system as listed in 230.24 D, and the service could be grounded if desired (corner ground) but it was not required. Although this type of service is not real common 200.2 makes it seem like it is not legal either. I looked back and the 1999 code has the same requirement. Is it a requirement that all services require a grounded conductor no matter what the application? I don't disagree with this requirement it just took me by surprise when I was looking at replacing an industrial service. When did this change?
