What is the # of ckts in a detached building before a Main disconnect is needed? Of the top of my head I think it is four but I cant find it in the book.
One, in keeping with 225.31, basically you cannot supply circuitry to another building without also providing a disconnecting means. The main intention of this code is to have a single location to open the supplying circuit in the event of an emergency.
If you have a situation with an outbuilding (or storage) with a light, switch and receptacle, then you can provide one branch circuit to the outbuilding but it still has to route through a main disconnect, this can be a SP snap switch. With this same example if you add a 220v dryer or well circuit then you should feed the outbuilding and distribute through a sub panel (as a main disconnect accessible as per 225) it can include up to 6 breakers before a single main breaker is required in it.
