detached garage subpanel egc??

since i have copper cold and hot water lines in the garage, can i run the egc to the copper pipes instead of a ground rod??

Does it meet 250.52(A)(1)? (10 feet underground)

Also, if this water originates at the house, and is in metal pipe, you will be required to have the EGC - see 250.32(B)(1 and 2) in the '05 NEC

If you are under the '08 NEC, you will need the EGC no matter what.

I presume you mean GEC and No-- you have to bond the metal water pipes but you also would need the ground rods or a CEE.
