Detecting a DSL signal

I use a Fluke TS25D

It will not detect a DSL line that does not have a modem connected...

Mine's a Harris (now Fluke) TS44DLX.

They actually make a DSL test set, the TS1200

The only problem I see with using a modem to test a DSL circuit is that you may get false negatives (no sync) if the DSLAM and CPE are provisioned differently.

Is there a simple way to detect a DSL signal on a line. In this particular case, the line is what I understand to be a "dry loop" meaning there is no telephone service, only DSL. I can usually hear the DSL signal if I listen in, but this line has no phone line to listen in on. Is there some kind of cheap and easy way to detect a signal. Do wome of the hand sets have this now?

If someone is havin a problem with the DSL line, plug a jumper into the box outside to the modem and test.
I have a DSL line but no phone line but still I have a phone number assigned to my DSL and my sattelite uses it to communicate to the central hub.

TS1200 Neat tool - for less than $2k..... Eeek!
