Determining Existing loads

Article 220.87 allows for existing loads to be determined with maximum demand data if available for a 1-year period.

I have contacted the utility company for the peak demand load for 12 months. The plan check department in Las Vegas will not accept utility data because it is not stated in the code that way.

My question is: How do I gain that information if not through the utility.

I do not have time to hook-up a data recorder for a 30-day period as an alternative.

Thanks,
Dan Craven

I do not understand. That is exactly the way it is stated in the code. Something is not being communicated clearly, and I suspect it the plan check department that is being unclear. Can you help me understand what they are telling you?

Just to be clear myself, what you need is peak demand, in units of kilowatts, not peak usage, in units of kilowatt-hours. Is that the problem?

I've never been turned down in Clark County for using power company demand data. Can you tell us a bit more about the installation? Service voltage and ampacity, plus the demand value from the utility would help.

This installation is in the city of Las Vegas. The current peak deman load from the utility was 32kw or 133amperes at 240volt, 1 phase. the service is presently rated for 600amperes. I plan on adding 44kw or 183amps.

If you add 25% to the peak measured load, then add your new load, I get a result of about 350 amps load on a 600 amp service. I would say that that is acceptable.
