In my area 18" AFF to center for outlets, 44" or 48" AFF to center for switches.
Other areas will most likely be different.
It is like asking what is the standard direction for hanging sheets of rock, up and down or side to side. Up to the installer really.
Above 15" and below 54" other than that there is no standard.
