Of course they are targeted as the cheap option. That is their selling point. Does not mean there is anything wrong with them.
Not automatically, no. And for sure, lots of stuff now comes from China even if it bears the name of a more well known company. But I have seen a lot of unlisted junk electrical products coming from China that is sold so cheap that legitimate suppliers of tested and listed products can’t compete and get driven out if the business, leaving no choice but the cheap junk. It’s a race to the bottom once you throw out the safety testing and listing process.

There has been another US based manufacturer of listed digital phase converters called Phase Perfect for decades, they are now struggling to stay alive because of these cheap unlisted Chinese knock-offs.

It happened with bench grinders, American manufacturers could not compete, Delta/Rockwell made some good ones, (I have a couple) the only domestic manufacturer left is, Baldor, & they are pricey.
