Simple question, per NEC I cannot find anything that states a direct bury 15v AC transformer needs to be GFCI protected. I know plug in units do but can’t find anything as it relates to this.
Fed from Lutron homework’s module and supplies 6 - 300w 13v ac transformers that are direct buried. The gfi breaker randomly trips and all has megged out ok with no issues.
Some old posts I looked up but that was a 13yr old post. Anyone know of any changes?

I would look at 210.8(F)Ex.

210.8(F) Outdoor Outlets.
All outdoor outlets for dwellings, other than those covered in 210.8(A)(3), Exception to (3), that are supplied by single-phase branch circuits rated 150 volts to ground or less, 50 amperes or less, shall have ground-fault circuit-interrupter protection for personnel.
Exception: Ground-fault circuit-interrupter protection shall not be required on lighting outlets other than those covered in 210.8(C).

By reading it for a direct bury transformer it wouldnt require it.
A hardwired transformer is indeed connected to an outlet because the utilization equipment (transformer) is connecting to the wiring system.

Outlet.
A point on the wiring system at which current is taken to supply utilization equipment.

Are all 6 transformers connected to the same breaker? If so I could see the inrush of the transformers tripping a standard, non-GFCI breaker.
