Someone told me that ALL pool equipment is required to be GFCI protected. I don't see it that way. I see if it is cord and plug connected then it is required to be protected. I'm using the 2002 NEC. Can someone give me an article # that states it needs protection?
The pool is at a single family home 240 volt. The pool is an in-ground permanent type.

680.22(A)(5) GFCI Protection. All 15- and 20-ampere, single-phase, 125-volt receptacles located within 6.0 m (20 ft) of the inside walls of a pool shall be protected by a ground-fault circuit interrupter. Receptacles that supply pool pump motors and that are rated 15 or 20 amperes, 125 volts through 250 volts, single phase, shall be provided with GFCI protection.

Hard wired pumps pumps do not require GFCI protection.

How come Jim? When wired correctly, there's never a problem that I've had without GFCI protection. Just curious.

The key word is correctly. What if somehow the ground got loose,i like the extra bit of safety even when not required. If affordable i would only use gfci receptacles thru out the house.NEC is min.

I will always use gfi protection in a pool situation. Whether required or not.
