If you have a xfmr. wall mounted located above the associated panel it is serving is the primary disconnect for the xfmr. allowed to be adjacent to the xfmr. even if it exceeds the 6?-7? handle rule? (The feeder is fed from a DP as a riser to multiple floors at each floor the feeder is tapped to a fused disc. Sw. to the xfmr. primary and then down to the panel below.)

Well....your not required to have a primary disconnect but if you choose to have one in my opinion it must not be more then 6'-7" to the handle.

Exception

Exception

I thought there was an exception for equipment mounted in ceiling spaces? Although there is no ceiling it is mounted approx. 10? AFF to the bottom.

Actually yes, see exception 2 of 404.8(A).

BUT that exception only applies to a disconnect on the primary side of the transformer. The secondary side must be located no higher then 6-7 but it also can not be to far from the transformer.

The OP did not mention this, and the actual heght of the transformer is not stated, but if the transformer is directly above the panelboard, would 110.26(F)(1) require it be set away from the wall a distance equal to the depth of the panelboard (if it is less than 6 ft above the panelboard) ?
I always felt this was a requirement to allow conduit to be installed above the panelboard. Is my thinking correct ?
