Disconnect means for instant hot water

Thanks Cow, after looking back thru 422.31(B) I see where this would have saved me alot of time and effort with regular water heaters. Something is telling me that because this one is using 3, 2 pole 50amp breakers 422.31(B) is not gonna work here.

Lets say a plumber shows up to work on the appliance. He goes to the panel,opens the door see's a 2p 50 breaker marked water heater and turns it off. Not knowing there is two more to turn off. It could get ugly quick.

Do they make a breaker lock for 3 2p breakers to shut them off all at once?

Heater should have label stating that it my be feed with more than one circuits. It's on electric heat all the time.

I've never had too it but that woul be one of those "cause I said so" things. In don't think anyboy would fight it.

My guess is the UL listing would require the 2 circuit label

And they likely are. ASSUMING ALL 3 BREAKERS IN SAME PANEL. They are grouped. And panel schedule likely says WH #1 , wh #2 ,WH #3 That solved nothing if repairman has no label at heater.

Are you saying the repairman is an Idiot? If a repairman needs a label, then I think he shouldn't be working on electrical equipment. I will agree a label couldn't hurt anything. it might keep an untrained person from getting hurt.

Don't get me wrong, i think a label should be required and handle tie and label at panel. Would not want a repairman getting killed just because this was his first tankless job. Idiot is not the word but untrained is. Personally i don't like the idea of tankless. Requires a large service that would not be needed 24kw instead of 4.5 is major.
