How come I see ac disconnects with a breaker or fuse if its protected upstream
So is it best practice to install a disconnect with a ocpd if I'm not sure about the equipment requirements ?
I see fused discos all the time when they could have been NF. It's quite rare these days to have equipment that requires fuses. I can't remember the last time I installed a fused disco on a HVAC unit.

To quote Pat Paulsen (political comedian from the 60's), "The answer to that question is absolutely, without a doubt, 'who knows?'"

What I meant by that is that I see a lot of stuff in the field that there is no reason for that I can see, but someone must have thought it was necessary. Either that, or the installer got a bulk rate price on fused disconnects. Who knows?

Leakage current from a long run to the main panel. If the tub has 3ma of leakage from the factory and your 250 ft of wire to the panel has 2ma then you'll trip the breaker. You put the gfi by the tub you rule that out and it'll mean the problem is internal.
So the gfci receptacle at the tub would trip instead of the breaker ??

If tou do lots of service work , especially like 24 hour stuff you have to keep supplies in stock. If you have a fused disco you can use it to replace both fused and unfused. If you have an unfused disco, you can only use it to replace an unfused.

Works that way with a lot of stock
