Disconnecting means in a mobile home

I am not sure if I am reading this right or the inspector is trying to make my life difficult. I was advised that I need to have "SERVICE DISCONNECT" plainly marked by the disconnecting means in a mobile home. In 550.11 (A) it states that it should be marked as main. What's the big deal you ask I am home for the weekend and dont want to make the 250 mile trip back up there to mark it for approval.

The disconnecting means within the mobile home is the breaker in the feeder panel. The service disconnect is outside and away from the mobile home. Why would he want you to label a feeder as a service? :-?

My guess is where the supply cord comes into the mobile home, thats the only thing I can think of. I am confused.:-?

You were "advised" by who. If the inspector is say it's a code violation he must also supply code reference.
In 550.11 fpn that refers you to 110.22 it states it must be legible. It doesn't imply the wording.

In 550.11 (A) it states that it should be marked as main.
Your words that 550.11(A) says "should" is incorrect.
550.11(A) "shall be plainly marked "main".
The reason I correct what you are saying is the word "shall" gives you backing. "shall" in this context of code section means just that, that's the way it is, dont care if you like it or not it "shall be marked main".

My opinion is the guy ether doesnt know or is making it up as he goes. Most homeowners and people who are not in the electrical field or are familiar with the language know what you mean when you say main breaker but will be confused with service disconnect

You are correct I didnt mean to say should....sorry. Apparently the local inspecter stopped by my brothers mobile home parked on our lot for deer hunting and fishing and started giving him trouble about him parking it on our land and hooking it up as we have for the past 15 yrs now. I hooked it up and thought everything was fine. He, local inspector stated "The disconnecting means in a mobile home shall be plainly marked SERVICE DISCONNECT. The only thing I could find was what I stated (except.) shall for should.

If I am understanding what your are saying you have a "camper trailer" not a mobile home. Correct? If so this would fall into Art.552. However 552.45 says nothing on any wording for the distribution panel.
Why would an inspector just stop by? Maybe they have permits for setting up one and maybe you kinda forgot to go by the inspections office;)
