I am installing a second meter can on a house to feed a garage that is not attached to the house. My question is if I need a dis. located at the meter or can I just have a meter that feeds a panel with a main that is located in the garage?Inspector thinks I need a disconnect at the meter?Any thoughts would be app. Thanks.

The disconnect for the house is in the basement meter is outside.Garage is fed from house but a 200 amp service is needed for the garage because of load.(the reason for having the extra service put in)

newt, so your installing a meter for just the garage but you want located next to the house meter. Why don't you install the garage meter on the garage? You're going to get charge for 2 meters. I'm I missing something here.

If I located meter on garage there would be a charge for a new service. The triplex is already at the house so there would be no charge. The garage is a seperate bussiness.

If the new meter is to be located on the house but is serving electricity to another detached building I don't see why the disconnect would be required to be adjacent to the meter on the house. I would think the main disconnect for the garage would be required to be located at the garage nearest the point of where the service entrance conductors enter the building.
