Brand new home built in 2017. Permitted under the 2011 N.E.C.code. For many years we would install a 2pole breaker, install 20 amp receptacle brake the tab on device under sink and plug in disposal on switched half and the other half plugged into dishwasher so they would be on their own circuits. Is it legal according to the 2011 code to share the same 20 amp single pole breaker for both appliances. Now they have a single 20 amp receptacle under sink and it must feed thru to dishwasher, can't see without disconnecting water line.

The dishwasher and disposal on the same circuit is compliant depending on the amp rating of the units. Usually this is not an issue. Using a duplex receptacle is also fine, IMO

Unless the appliances require an individual branch circuit according to their listing as Dennis stated they can share the same circuit. If you were under the 2017 then the dishwasher would require GFCI protection.
