My preference as well. That's why I asked the question. My thinking was that "fixed in place" also meant "wired direct" with a fixture whip, ac cable or NMC where the only disconnect available was at the breaker panel.
FWIW, you generally don't (although I guess you can if you wanted to) do that with an electric range/oven or a refrigerator, yet they're cord and plug attached.
I apologize, I didn't mean to pirate this thread away from the OP. As others have mentioned, a 20 amp circuit is probably the right way to go and always check the manufacturer's instructions. We've discussed this many times here in the Forum and that's been the general consensus. I would also check the name plate ratings on both appliances before making a decision to run them both on one circuit. Another consideration is that a DW usually runs at varying levels of amperage during its cycle whereas a disposal only runs when called upon to do so for 10-20 seconds. The chances of both running when the DW is at its highest amperage mode is a shot in a thousand but I bet my wife can find that point in time 9 out of 10 times.:lol:
