I would like to set a 400 amp panel board at on end of a bld. inside the board install a 250 branch breaker go to the other side of the building set a 24" x 24" j box tap and set a 150amp disconnect and a 100amp disconnect..the 150 feeding three sixty amp disconnects with 40 amps loads my question is since the 150 and the 100 are to be within 10 feet tap rule but the main 250amp is 800 feet away and outof sight with no indipendent means of locking off ( just the door is lockable )will this pass an inspection ? I've seen it done before what is the ruling ( is this passable ? )

Re: distance for tap box

I'm not sure I understand your question. Is there a specific code article that you think may be a problem? And why a 150 amp disconnect feeding 3-60 amp disconnects? Why not simply tap the 250 amp feeder and feed all of your disconnects?

Re: distance for tap box

in 240.21(B) there is no mention about how far the ocpd is from the tap or the length of the feeder used for the supply of the tap conductors.
