Re: Distance from Remote Meter to Service Panel?

it's 2:51 AM here.
I know, I set Mike's site for military EST. Only because it's the easiest way I can find to make sense of what time "really" is when something's posted.

Physis,
(I get

With 3/0 Cu, 3.83% for 200 amps at 300 ft.
With 2/0 Cu, 4.84% for 200 amps at 300 ft. )

Remember you have to take the disance by 2. Figure 600'. (Feed + Return). Taking a nap?

Re: Distance from Remote Meter to Service Panel?

2 x 300 x 200 x .0000766 = 9.192

9.192 / 240 = .0383 or 3.83%

The 2 at the beginning of the equation is for doubling the distance.

It'll work the same for the 2/0 :)

Edit: Parenthetically, I use the 2 rather than directly inserting the distance doubled because the 2 can be replaced with 1.732 for three phase.

Not that I invented the idea, it's common practice.

Re: Distance from Remote Meter to Service Panel?

Jim, I hope you don't take don't this the wrong way, I goof things up too.

I checked your math in an earlier post where you're using 300 kcmil and for the numbers you use I get:

2 x 290 x 200 x .0000429 = 4.9764

My assumption is that you took that to be the percentage of voltage drop rather than the voltage drop itself.

If you take that number and do this with it:

4.9764 / 240 = .0207 or 2.1%

You'll have the percent of voltage drop.

:) :)

Edited cause I goofed up too :D
