I do exclusively industrial, and I'm lost here. What are you seeing that tells you this was a DIY?

This is just a curiousity question. It is nothing I would likely run into, but it is interesting.

Then you need to 'walk' some residential jobs.

In Ohio owners can do the work on their own, personal residence only, property.

I'll be sure to put that right at the top of my list. But it the meantine, I'll ask again:
What are you seeing, in the three pictures, that tells you this was a DIY?

Bummer you guys in Ohio are so limited. Where I am, no permits and no inspections are required for single family or two family residences. Triplexes require inspection.

They dont seem to want to answer you , I cant make the photo out that well , but it seems a splice or a receptacle was done in a wall with out a box, and just a box extension was used to hold the cover or receptacle. Any one with license would know it is a violation , so a conclusion was made it was a DIY , It could have been handy man , home owner or electrician that didnt care because it was 5 oclock somewhere, or beer thirty  Not to take up for the DIY but the faulty connection would have occured with or without a proper box

Me neither

Ah - of course. I erroneously assumed there was a box.poked back inside the wall in the first picture.

Me neither (take up with the DIY), but then I wouldn't take up with anyone doing poor work.

And as you said, the non-compliant work didn't cause the burn - that would be my take as well.

Thank you

Well thank you , no one ever agrees with me on the forum , I feel like a black sheep sometimes

That sounds like a cool place , If you get bored with topless boxes , you can go bottomless also :grin::grin:

Your end is bit more fun, you first get to have big laugh and get some great pictures.
You don't gotta fix it. Bet you wear out a few ink pens.

I'll give you that. I like to be optimistic and I don't carry my clip board onto the job as I always hope to just sign the job card. Nothing worse than just barely getting both feet in the door, taking a quick look around and saying, "wait here while I go back out to my truck."
