Do i need a disconnect for a 40 amp 240v printing machine

When to this commercial printing buisness. They got a new machine but im not sure if should install disconnect for maintnance perpessis or just have the breaker as the disconnecting means

I don't think it is required but might be convenient.

Likely the machine has a control panel of some sort that includes a disconnect.
 
If it is plug-in then the cord cap will be the local disconnect. If not, then a disconnect switch is more convenient than a breaker lock depending of course on how far the panel is located from the machine.
 
My thought would be that a printing machine will be a finicky machine and need to be serviced more ofthen than many devices and that a local disconnect would be a good idea for the safety of the person servicing the printing machine.

It is a good idea. But if there is a plug, you just unplug it. You can put a locking cover over the plug cap too if you are worried. Lots of people sell those now.
